He also raised concerns over the suspension of internet services, stating that such restrictions affect the professional work of lawyers.
Court Functioning Must Not Be Disrupted, Says CJI Surya Kant
During the hearing, Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant observed that democratic activities should be allowed to take place smoothly. However, he stressed that such activities must not obstruct the functioning of the Supreme Court.
The CJI also emphasised that the movement of lawyers, court staff and litigants should not be impeded. Ensuring the uninterrupted functioning of the court remains essential, he observed.
The Supreme Court’s hearing on the SCBA petition is expected to bring further attention to concerns surrounding the detention of lawyers and the suspension of internet services during protests in Delhi.
