NEW DELHI: Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has approached the Delhi High Court seeking the removal of allegedly AI-generated and obscene content featuring her that is being circulated online. She has sought legal protection for her personality rights and requested the court to restrain the dissemination of such material.
High Court May Pass Interim Order
Justice Vikas Mahajan issued summons to the parties named in Ranaut’s petition concerning the alleged misuse of her identity and personality rights. The court indicated that an interim order may be passed in the matter.
The plea comes amid growing concerns over the use of artificial intelligence to create and circulate manipulated or fabricated content involving public figures.
Court Also Hears Vijay Deverakonda’s Plea
During the proceedings, the Delhi High Court also issued summons in a separate personality rights lawsuit filed by Telugu actor Vijay Deverakonda. The court indicated that an interim order could also be considered in that matter.
What Has Kangana Sought?
In her petition, Ranaut has sought directions to prevent the circulation of allegedly objectionable material created using AI technology and to have such content removed from online platforms and other mediums.
The case raises broader concerns over the misuse of AI to manipulate a person’s identity, image and reputation without consent. It also brings renewed attention to the legal protection available to public figures against digitally altered and objectionable content.
